The lake has a good percentage of large specimen carp, so is a great place to try to beat your personal best.
We pride ourselves on having larger fish than many of the bigger local lakes.
River Farm was purchased by Fred and Jean back in 1970. Several areas of the farm were marshland. This prompted the idea to build a Trout Lake in the area which was always waterlogged, near to the original dwelling. The excavation for the lake at River Farm began during the spring of 1977, and was completed later that year.
Several natural underground springs, together with the freshwater stream that crossed the land, soon began to fill the 2 acre lake. The adjacent photograph ( one of the very few still remaining ) shows this process, and is viewed towards the River Meon, from the current swim lucky number 7. River Farm subsequently became River Farm Trout Fishery.
It remained as a Trout Fishery for 16 years, during which time coarse fish established themselves in the lake, and Carp were introduced. It was in 1994 that it was changed from Trout fishing to Coarse fishing, and the lake was stocked with Carp. The farm was renamed River Farm Carp Fishery.
It has remained a family-run business and is currently run by their son Paul. He continues to provide great Carp for great fishing.
